WE NEED HOUSE CORPORATION VOLUNTEERS

We are currently searching for House Corp volunteers.  Currently, there are four volunteers; however, at least two will be stepping down at the end of the calendar year. These two individuals have provided over 20 years of service and the time has come for others to serve.  House Corp is a non-profit organization and is responsible for the Shelter in Oxford. Basically, House Corp is the landlord for the chapter. Typically members communicate effectively via e-mail and meet in Oxford 3-4 times annually.  Current members have been trying to recruit new volunteers for the past year since the Centennial Celebration, but with very limited success. Dave Martin '68, recent chapter advisor, did move from his advisory role to House Corp in the past year - but on a short-term basis.  Despite reaching out to dozens of Gamma Upsilon alumni no one has stepped up to volunteer. Younger (than our current House Corp members) alumni state that they are busy with work and family, others comment that they do not want to be a landlord with all of its headaches, and many others are flat "not interested".

Without volunteers willing to serve on House Corp causes us concern and therefore we are coming to a pivotal point in the history of our Shelter - which I think will be 50 years old in 2018!

We have discussed our "local" situation with the Delt Central Office in Indianapolis to get ideas, thoughts and assistance.  The Central Office may be of assistance in putting the word out to all Delt alumni of our immediate need.  However, if we are unsuccessful in finding new house corp members a transition plan is unfolding and being discussed currently.

So simplistically the house corp transition plan is as follows:

Nov 1 - Dec 31 - Search for new house corp members.

Nov 15 - Dec 15 - Interview local Oxford property managers. The current mindset is to have the property manager ready to go by the start of the Spring Semester.

Jan 1 - 15 - Hire property manager.

If we are not successful in finding new house corp members we believe GU alumni are telling us that a big change needs to be made. If that is indeed the case the final element is to put the shelter up for sale in the June time period.

As always your thoughts are appreciated and valued. Take some time over the holidays and reflect on whether you can volunteer.
