Donald C. Stogsdill, MD: Achieving Greatness!

Donald C. Stogsdill, MD, has been named the new chief medical officer (CMO) at St.Vincent Heart Center, a member of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and not-for-profit health system.

Dr. Stogsdill will serve as the chief liaison between administration and medical staff, working to ensure physician satisfaction, collaboration and education. Also, he will work to develop strategies for clinical performance and documentation improvement, medical staff compliance and accreditation as well as oversee quality and patient safety efforts. 

Prior to this new role, Dr. Stogsdill was the director of cardiac anesthesia at St.Vincent Heart Center since 1991 as well as a staff anesthesiologist at St.Vincent Indianapolis since 1983. 

During Dr. Stogsdill’s tenure, he has held multiple leadership positions on committees at St.Vincent Heart Center, including credentialing; process improvement; medical executive and chairman of patient care policy.

Dr. Stogsdill earned his bachelor’s degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He completed his internship at St.Vincent Indianapolis and residency at Indiana University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Stogsdill is succeeding William Storer, MD, FACC, medical director of St.Vincent Heart Center, who after 46 years in medicine, retired on Tuesday, June 30. Dr. Storer had more than 40 years of cardiology experience, much of that time serving as president of Indianapolis-based Storer, Schmidt & Associates. Prior to becoming medical director at St.Vincent Heart Center, he was director of cardiology at Methodist Hospital. 

In addition to his cardiology practice, Dr. Storer served the Indiana Heart Association as program director for its Annual Scientific Sessions. He is also a Fellow of the American College of physicians and the American College of Cardiology and a Faculty Emeritus at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
